Testimonials

We work hard for our kids and it shows in everything we do.
Our twins have been at Calico Cat Pre-School for a year now. I cannot say enough good things about this school. All the teachers are amazing. Each teacher always greets us with a smile and my boys are really learning so much. We came from another school and the curriculum was nothing like they have learned here at Calico Cat. Every day I am amazed at the progress my boys are making. You can really feel how much all the teachers, Ms. Ilona and Father Greg truly care about each child. Our family is so happy that they made the decision to join Calico Cat. Looking forward to many years and good memories while at Calico Cat Preschool

Calico Cat was a wonderful choice for our son. Our son thrived at Calico Cat and we have their fantastic teachers to thank for that! His reading skills are above his age level, which I attribute largely to the curriculum at Calico Cat. Teachers not only teach social and academic skills, but also tend to each childs needs.

I'm a proud parent of two Calico Cat Preschool graduates who are now in 5th and 8th grades. Calico Cat is one of the best decisions I've made with regard to my children's developmental and educational foundations. The teachers are the heart of the school. They are nurturing and care for the whole child - emotionally, mentally, physically and even spiritually. Curiosity is always encouraged and the teachers have the unique ability to turn a child's discovery into a learning experience. For example, a child discovers a caterpillar on a nature walk and the teacher takes the opportunity to share about the life cycle of the bug or relates it back to a topic that the kids have learned about in class. Speaking of class, the day is filled with hands-on activities and playtime which are both so necessary for a child's development. Classes are small enough that each child gets individual attention from the teachers. Both lead teachers in the three-year-olds and four-year-olds classrooms have taught at Calico Cat for over 10 years. They keep their classrooms running smoothly without having to resort to yelling - I wish I could do that at home with only 2 kids! A formal curriculum is followed, but the teachers actually teach to the individual child. If a child has mastered a skill, they are challenged with another. If a child needs more help with a skill, more time and instruction are provided. This sounds pretty obvious but you wouldn't believe how hard it is to find in a school, so take advantage! Both of my kids were more than prepared for primary school. I can't say enough about the school and its dedicated teachers. But more importantly, my kids loved Calico Cat. Both of them looked forward to going to school. In fact, my son started his Pre-K year attending half-days and he ended the year attending full days - at his request! Both children formed friendships at Calico Cat that continue today. We even stop in from time to time to visit their teachers. Jennie R.

My daughter Mia is a student in Ms. Maricela and Ms. Alyssa's class. Ever since she started school, I have noticed such a positive change with her behavior and social skills. I could not be happier with her improvement. It's only November and she has learned so much in two months. She can spell out her name, recognize all of the letters of the alphabet, she has also gained an interest for books and reading. Although she does not know how to read yet, I love to watch her make up stories based off the illustrations on each page. This all came ever since she joined Calico Cat Preschool. Ms. Maricela and Ms. Alyssa are so patient and caring with Mia, not to mention she loves them so much. If I ever have any questions for them they take their time and are very thorough with me. I couldn't be happier and I am very grateful that they are my daughter's teachers. Overall, Calico Cat preschool has been a very positive experience for our family.

Why Choose Calico Cat?

Calico Cat Preschool offers a variety of full-time and part-time programs for both Preschool and Pre-K.

We serve children from South River, East Brunswick, Old Bridge, Parlin, Sayreville, Spotswood, and the surrounding areas in Middlesex County.

As educators we believe that every child can succeed and reach one’s highest potential in a comfortable, safe, nurturing and stimulating environment. Every child is unique and can learn when provided learning-rich setting and is guided through age-appropriate activities that are based on personal abilities, interests, specific needs and individual learning style.

Our dedicated and experienced staff is trained to identify individual needs and interests of their students through daily observations and assessment tools. They plan and implement the most effective learning activities to promote the growth of every child in all aspects: intellectual, social, emotional, physical, creative and spiritual development.

Young children learn about the world through direct exploration and hands-on discovery. They understand new concepts best if those concepts are meaningful, and can be related to everyday experiences and interests of the young learners. Calico Cat teachers lead the class through various activities, providing many opportunities for imaginative play, sensory play, socializing, active exploration, investigation, problem solving and skill practice.

We understand the importance of family as their child’s first and most influential teacher. We communicate with parents and work collaboratively with all families to get to know their children better and to suit all of their needs and expectations. We welcome parents’ involvement in school’s functions and value their feedback. We foster a close partnership with families, local volunteers and community helpers in creating a highly effective teaching and learning environment.

Calico Cat also enrolls eligible children referred by Childcare Solutions of Middlesex County, formerly known as Catholic Charities.
